How to Safely Install a Hard Drive

As many of you know I have worked on computers for over 15 years now but I will tell you I am always looking for ways to improve on safety.  I found an article about How to Safely Install a Hard Drive and found it very interesting and very useful.  Of course I've done this many times, but for some people this is major undertaking.  If I had never installed a hard drive, these instructions would have been a great help to me.  I am always open to suggestions when it comes to computers and How to Safely Install a Hard Drive had some really great tips.

Careers

I often wonder how people come to be in the career that they are in.  I can tell you that I didn’t start out working on and around computers.  Now when I was a kid, I did like to take things apart and put them back together so now I can see where it would have been ideal for me to start in computers.  I actually start in the clerical or bookkeeping field because I liked working with numbers.  Big life change and I decided to do something else about 15 years ago.  All this brings me to the subject of teachers.  I work for a very large school district and yesterday the teachers ‘staged’ a one day walk.  Over half of the 1400 or so teachers didn’t show up for work.  Now the district pretty much handled it with ‘subs’ but the IT department was called upon to ‘fill’ in for some classes.  Ok now it gets really interesting.  I sat in a class yesterday with 8th graders.  There were 11 at the beginning and then after parents checked out students I had about 8 for the remainder of the day.  It was fairly quiet.  We watched movies and made paper wads to throw in the trash can.  Yeah I know, I probably shouldn’t have but I’m not trained to teach and there were no fights and no one got hurt.  I made it through the day without any Prozac so I’m thinking I am so glad I didn’t want to be a teacher..LOL

Nancy Grace

I flip channels occasionaly much like I surf the internet.  I watch Nancy Grace sometimes because she makes a lot of sense.  I read an article that is All About Nancy Grace and have to admit I admire her even more after reading how she got started.  She really had plans for a much different life that didn't include television but at the age of 19, she lost her fiance to a violent murder and really took it upon herself to become an advocate for victim's.  You should read All About Nancy Grace, I think you will find it very inspiring.

Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holiday

Well I am really disappointed in Best Buy.  I was told that I could not tell anyone Merry Christmas because it could offend them.  I have to use Happy Holiday.  Well it offends me to have to use Happy Holiday instead of Merry Christmas.  People sure do forget why we celebrate Christmas.  I decided to do some research on Christmas and was very surprised at what I found.  Did you know that at one time Christmas was outlawed in Boston but was celebrated by Captain John Smith in the Jamestown Settlement.  After the American revolution, Christmas was not very popular because it was considered and English custom.  Christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until 1870.  Even the North and South were divided when it came to Christmas.  The North believed saw sin in the Christmas celebration, while the South considered it a very important part of the social season.  It was no surprise that the first three states to make Christmas a legal holiday were Southern states; Alabama in 1836, Louisiana and good old Arkansas in 1838.  In 1841 a northern merchant hired a man to dress in a 'Criscrinkle' suite and climb the chimney of his store.  An illustrator for Harper's Magazine created images of Santa for the Christmas editions in 1863 and continued through the 1890s.  And of course we all know that Christmas grew into something really huge.  However, in all the history of Christmas, how much of the history mentions why we even celebrate?  Well it's very easy for me.. It's in the word CHRISTmas...

Two Year Olds on a Swingset

Nanny's Trunk has some really great information on two year olds especially when they are playing on a swing set. Toddlers love to swing but there are some things that need to be taken into consideration when they are playing outside whether it is on a simple swing set, a play gym or even a trampoline. If you are a new parent or a new grandparent of a two year old you might want to read the article Two Year Old Kids on a Swing Set. This will give some great information and you might want to take the time to read some of the other interesting posts on this website.
